Founder's Letter | June 26, 2014

Since Backstop was founded in 2003, we’ve been very fortunate to grow from a small start-up in Chicago to a company with more than 100 employees and four offices worldwide. As we continue to prosper as a company, it’s important that we take a step back and look at how we cannot only make an impact in our industry, but also give back to the communities in which we work.

Today, Backstop Solutions Group is launching the Backstop Foundation. The Backstop Foundation offers the company and our employees an opportunity to serve those in need and give back to the charities and causes that are near and dear to their hearts. 

Personally, I have always been passionate about donating both my time and money to causes that help support children in need. Today’s youth are our world’s future, and it’s important to me that I give to philanthropic causes that help teach children important skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.

To that end, it is the mission of the Backstop Foundation to support the health, education and welfare of children in the communities in which we operate. The Backstop Foundation will give annual donations to benefit organizations that support this mission. We will aim to give 40 percent of the funds to industry-related charities, 40 percent to education-related charities and the remaining 20 percent is to be donated at the advisory board’s discretion based on employee feedback.

At the Foundation’s launch, we have donated to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). NFTE seeks to provide programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for successful futures. The Backstop Foundation is also in the midst of donating to Hedge Funds Care, an international organization whose sole mission is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

I am excited that Backstop employees share in my passion for philanthropy and will now have an avenue to express this by having a voice in the charities that we support. The Backstop Foundation will also provide employees with opportunities to donate their time to these selected charities. It is our hope that we can continue to grow the Backstop Foundation in the years to come, and we look forward to making a positive impact in our communities.
